  • Dauntless Dive Bomber
    Rugged and dependable the Dauntless, (aka Banshee) sank more Japanese shipping than any other aircraft. During the Battle of Midway in '42, the Dauntless sank or fatally damaged all four of the Japanese aircraft carriers. A "plus" score against enemy aircraft, considered a rare event for a "bomber"

  • B-25 Mitchell
    The B-25 bomber used in the 18 April 1942 Doolittle Raid, in which 16 B-25Bs led by Jimmy Doolittle attacked mainland Japan, four months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On 28 July 1945, while flying in thick fog, a B-25 crashed into the north side of the Empire State Building.

  • B-24 Liberator
    B-24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber, designed by Consolidated Aircraft of San Diego, California was employed in operations in every combat theater. Brigadier General Jimmy Stewart USAF Reserve, flew B-24s as commanding officer.

  • B-29 Superfortress
    Implemented as a promise to China and called Operation Matterhorn, was to use B-29s to attack Japan. Perhaps the most famous B-29 is the Enola Gay, which dropped the atomic bomb "Little Boy" on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945.

  • B-17 Flying Fortress
    The B-17's incredible capacity to take it, to come flying home on three, two, even one engine, sieve-like with flak and bullet holes, with large sections of wing or tail surfaces shot away-has been so widely publicized that U. S. fighting men could afford to joke about it.
